The quality (weight/density) of a finished formed tablet is directly related to the compression roll force to make it. By controlling the compression force within certain defined limits, better part quality can be maintained. A tablet press force monitor can become an online tablet quality inspector.
Helm has a unique approach to measuring the force on high speed tablet presses. Using a precision machined and heat treated stainless steel load cell’s, compression forces can be accurately monitored. Typically system is configured for 2 channels of monitoring. The system can be expanded to include monitoring for part ejection and pre-compression force.
Key benefits of monitoring force on tablet presses:
- Machine Protection
- Tooling Protection
- Tablet Weight & Density Control
- Tablet Height Control
- Detection of Forming, Score and Ejection Problems
- Easier Machine Set-Up & Adjustment
- Knowledge through SPC Data Acquisition
The systems feature trend sampling routines, to arrive at an average learned force benchmark for each channel. There are adjustable high & low tolerance alarms for each channel, established as a percentage of allowable deviation from the sampled values.
Helm has three monitoring options available. Specialty input modules for Allen-Bradley PLC’s provide the strain gage input for the load cell transducer. The Helm PTM and RLG systems offer solidly engineered stand-alone systems; the PTM a more sophisticated monitor with Windows Embedded OS and a touch screen display.

The PTM has SPC capability on board and features data acquisition and downtime reporting.
All of the monitoring approaches provide for Ethernet connectivity.
The RLG features Bluetooth™ with a “capture & store” app available for Android devices.
All enclosures are available in stainless steel
